PAST EVENTS
The Council of International Students and Organizations puts on many events throughout the year. Here our organizations are given the opportunity to showcase their unique talents and spread knowledge of their culture.
These events allow students to learn about international cultures and for international students to be exposed the experiences that Florida has to offer!
COISO has two major events The International Dance Competition and International Week. Other than this, we are constantly organizing and executing smaller events, fueled by our devotion to celebrate cultural diversity, and defend the interests of the international students of the University of Miami. Mark these events on your calendar, we ensure you it will be an unforgettable affair!
International Dance Competition
Recently, COISO has established a new tradition on the university campus. This event gives students and faculty the opportunity to be exposed to the music and dance of people from all around the world. In the fall of 2011, we held our 5th annual International Dance Competition, and had well over 300 students, faculty, and community members attend. Despite one of UM’s youngest traditions, we are happy to see it become so popular so soon.
International Week
This is COISO’s most cherished affair. Every year since the founding of COISO in 1967, there has been an I-Week celebration to celebrate the cultural diversity of all of the University of Miami's students. Since then, it has become one of the largest on annual events on campus. As the name implies, I-Week is a week-long cultural showcase that takes place in the spring semester. On each night, cultures of a specific region of the world are put on display through a compilation of stage show, dance, and tent exhibitions, all centered around a certain theme that unites all of the performances of the week. Last year, I-Week was from March 26th to March 31st, the official theme was “Legends Never Die”.
